Auschwitz commander Rudolf Höss leads a life akin to a dream with his wife Hedwig, children, and servants. However, this luxurious life exists within the walls of the death camp, amidst the train tracks and gas chambers. Adapted from Martin Amis's novel of the same name, this compelling film portrays the ordinary daily lives of the Höss family, who enjoy their flower-filled expansive gardens, greenhouses, and pools while ashes of death rain down upon them. Following Jonathan Glazer's unrest-filled film "Under the Skin'' a decade ago, "The Zone of Interest" offers an unusual and chilling perspective on the banality of evil and the contradictions of human nature.
Shot on location at the Auschwitz camp over a decade-long research and production process, "The Zone of Interest" won four awards at Cannes, including the Grand Prix. After numerous accolades, earlier this year it was awarded the Best International Film and Best Sound Oscars as well.
