Premiering at last year's Toronto Film Festival, Stephen Frears' new feature film, The Lost King, is based on a true story about a woman who defies classical historical narratives. Philippa Langley suffers from chronic fatigue; her recent divorce and loss of a work promotion have exhausted her. One day, she goes to the theatre with her son to see Shakespeare's famous Richard III and identifies with the protagonist. She feels the urge to understand King Richard, who she feels is unfairly maligned by historians and the author of the play. The books she reads lead her to join a local Richard III Society, which claims he was unfairly vilified by classical historians. Philippa resigns from her job and dedicates herself to her new passion of locating Richard's lost grave. The true story of Philippa Langley, played by Sally Hawkins, is a feel-good movie by Stephen Frears. Steve Coogan, who plays Philippa's ex-husband John, also co-wrote and produced the film.
