Premiering in the ‘Discovery’ programme of the 47th Toronto Film Festival, Kar ve Ayı / Snow and the Bear is a ‘dark and atmospheric fairy tale’ according to its director, Selcen Ergun.

Young nurse Aslı is assigned to a remote town cut off from civilisation during the long winters. A man goes missing as rumours of a bear waking up early from hibernation spread fear among the townspeople, leaving Aslı in the middle of power struggles, secrets and suspicion.

Until the snow melts and the truth is revealed, Snow and the Bear leaves both the protagonist and the audience in a dilemma as to whether humans or bears should be blamed for local problems. This dilemma concerns the balance of nature as much as social belonging.
