Premiering in the 'Cinema Regained' section of the Rotterdam Film Festival this year, Kavur is a successful fusion of documentary and fictional elements. As one the most prominent directors of Turkish cinema, who achieved critical acclaim both in Turkey and abroad with the films he released in the 80s and 90s, Ömer Kavur is at the centre of the film.
The documentary aspect of the film conveys Ömer Kavur's life and his directorial journey between Istanbul and Paris through letters, photographs, archive footage, film scenes and interviews. There also is a fictional narrator character in the film, a young woman who embarks on a journey similar to the one in Kavur's films, passing through similar places and ultimately diving deep into the director's world. The documentary and fictional aspects of the film proceed towards the rediscovery of a lost short film made by Ömer Kavur in the 70s.
Young director Fırat Özeler, a senior student at the Kadir Has University Radio, Television and Cinema Department, approaches the traits that define Ömer Kavur's cinema and their connection with Turkey in his impressive debut film.
