Hatice Özkan is a Type-2 SMA patient. As a child, doctors concluded that she would not live more than seven years, but Hatice is forty-two years old today. Despite being 98% disabled, she started her education with great determination after the age of twenty, using only her eyes and the help of her family, especially her mother. With the help of technology, Hatice holds six undergraduate and two graduate diplomas and now has a family counselling certificate and a position as a civil servant even if she had to wait three years to be appointed. As a careful observer, director Murat Erün zooms in on Hatice’s daily life and her unusual success story. Essentially, Hatice has an important message: Many more disabled people can succeed with less prejudice and more opportunities.
