Avignon Festival... Isabelle Huppert is to perform in Chekhov's Cherry Orchard. Her colleague Fabrice Luchini is preparing to present a text by Nietzsche as a closet drama. An actor's stress before going on stage, preparing for the role, trying different methods to read is as much a technical process as it is about emotions, and it requires memorising as much as technique. Benoît Jacquot's Par cœurs, which means 'by heart', takes its name from a French idiom. This unique cinematic experiment suggests that the behind-the-scenes preparations of actors are about technique but equally about 'putting your heart' into the experience. Perhaps it is impossible to separate the two from each other. To complement the screening of this documentary, interviews will be held throughout the festival with cinema professionals to discuss their bond with their work.
