Bu Ben Değilim / This Is Not Me explores a seemingly casual and mutual, but ultimately emotional, aspect of affection between males. In fact, this is a common dilemma that can happen in any romantic relationship. Despite being from a rural background, Mustafa is determined to remain open about his sexual orientation. On the other hand, Mehmet, his long-term boyfriend he met after moving to the city, is older, married and strictly “in the closet”. Mustafa has been thinking of ending the relationship, Mehmet is keen on keeping it going without changing anything in his life.

The film might be a documentary in style, but there is room for emotions that is enough to reveal the daily challenges of a relationship and the life stories of Mehmet and Mustafa's queer friends who can’t open up for different reasons. A rarely found modest and frank account.
