Thirty-five-year-old travelling musician İshak returns to his highland hometown to visit his dying mother. This visit becomes a reminder of what caused him to flee the place seven years ago – the mysterious disappearance of the young civil servant Ali. Everyone has accepted Ali's death except for his father, who has been looking for him since, yet there is more than meets the eye. The townspeople know Ali was murdered, but they have chosen to remain silent to cover up for the mob that lynched the young man. İshak finally succumbs to the feeling of guilt, and years later, he tries to shed light on Ali's death.
Co-written by Özcan Alper and Murat Uyurkulak, Black Night paints a bleak picture of society in Turkey - a place that swallows you up in its darkness with no way out. Reflecting the zeitgeist, Black Night can be likened to other contemporary Turkish films with some of its motifs. A film that will undoubtedly offer insight to those who will use cinema to understand today's Turkey in years to come.
