Young meerkat Tafiti has been raised under the strict rules of his grandfather, whose only concern is to protect his grandchildren from the dangers of life. He repeats the same warning at every opportunity: never trust anyone outside your own kind and never make friends with them. One day, Tafiti ignores his grandfather’s advice. While out walking, he meets an injured red river hog and brings him home to treat his wounds. But when the hog makes a mistake, a venomous snake discovers their burrow and bites the grandfather.
