Hand in Hand: Women from Yirca tells the story of a struggle that spans more than a decade. In 2014, villagers in Yirca came together to resist the cutting down of their olive trees. Although they could not prevent the destruction of more than six thousand trees, they continued their fight to plant new ones in their place. The driving force of the resistance were the women, who went on to form a cooperative, building a community immersed in solidarity.
The newly planted trees bore their first fruit in 2024. Directed collectively by Ezgi Öz, Özge Ertem, and Özge Özgüner, the documentary begins with the village’s first Olive Harvest Festival. Rightfully proud of their achievement, the women of Yirca tell us the story of their ten-year struggle and their plans for the future
