Two brothers with completely opposite characters, have both followed in their father’s footsteps to become soldiers. The younger officer Sinan is a model soldier, disciplined and respectful of rules and commands. His brother Kenan, though, is a complete rebel. One day, Sinan’s superiors assign him a challenging task, which he cannot reject: he must escort his brother to another town and hand him over to a military court, where Kenan will stand trial. The journey reignites the animosity between the two brothers, whose relationship has never improved since their father’s death. More importantly, however, that same night a political event takes place that will shake Turkey to its core.
Türker Süer’s film successfully adapts the political turmoil of recent Turkish history into the framework of genre cinema. Thanks to its screenplay, editing, performances, and score, Edge of Night is both a political thriller and a road movie that keeps the audience gripped from beginning to end.
