From performing in "The Mahabharata" under the direction of Peter Brook on stage, to his unforgettable role in The Herd, which left a lasting mark on Turkish cinema, and to winning the Silver Bear for Best Actor at the Berlin Film Festival with The Smile of the Lamb, Tuncel Kurtiz was nothing short of an institution. Reaching younger generations in the 2000s through television series, he continued to create and inspire throughout his life, including the years he spent in exile. Over a career that began in the 1960s, which took him to many countries until his final years, he brought countless memorable characters to life.
Directed by Özcan Alper, All Over the Place – A Portrait of Tuncel Kurtiz is a documentary dedicated to this monumental actor. Combining interviews with figures such as Erkan Can, Nur Sürer, Halit Ergenç, Şevval Sam, Fatih Akın, Berkay Ateş and Nursel Köse with archival footage and film excerpts, the documentary paints a comprehensive portrait of Kurtiz. As it traces the story of a man whose work bore witness to half a century of the country’s history, the film unveils a detailed account of Turkey’s social, political, and artistic transformation during those same years.
